Description
Articulated robots are a general term for anthropomorphic robot manipulators consisting of several links, with the working arm attached to the end of the last link. Articulated robots consist of rotational kinematic pairs and typically have between 4 and 6 controllable axes. In principle, painting robots, welding robots, etc., are articulated, but for convenience, they are usually categorized by their application, while articulated robots are understood to be those used for moving objects (palletizing, depalletizing, machine tending).
To drive the links and gripper, electric, hydraulic, or pneumatic actuators are used. Each type of actuator has its advantages, so the choice depends on the specific application conditions:
-
Hydraulic actuators provide high force and fast response;
-
Electric actuators offer higher precision, although with lower force and speed;
-
Pneumatic actuators are used in smaller articulated robots performing cyclical operations.
The most commonly used working organ of articulated robots is the gripper, a device that captures and holds objects by moving the structural elements of the gripper. Pneumatic suction cups are used for flat objects. In most cases, the gripper design is customized depending on the shape and weight of the objects being moved.
When purchasing an articulated robot from San Max Trade Ltd., our specialists will design a custom working organ for you.
Key operations performed by articulated robots include:
-
Moving parts and assembly;
-
Welding;
-
Painting and spraying coatings;
-
Palletizing and depalletizing;
-
Milling and cutting metals, and more.
Today, the main competitor to articulated robots in production is the gantry system. The use of industrial robots is more advantageous when the load needs to be moved along a complex, curved trajectory, which is subject to change due to technological or production needs. In this context, articulated robots are more versatile, whereas gantry systems are usually designed for specific production conditions and do not allow for easy reconfiguration.
San Max Trade Ltd. offers a wide range of articulated robots with payloads from 7 to 2300 kg and maximum reach of over 4.5 meters. With a wide variety of models, we can offer a solution perfectly tailored to your specific needs. All robots are characterized by high reliability, efficiency, and long operational life.
